Job Description

The Deputy Director of Membership Programs and Participation is responsible for helpoing guide the union’s member strength programs, including member participation in union activities, leadership development, member mobilization, political fundraising, collective bargaining negotiations, contract enforcement, joint labor-management partnerships, member communications and member services. The union is innovating new ways to increase rank-and-file union participation and leader roles for workers who work from home.

Qualifications

Experience: At least 5 years
Skills: Specific jobs skills at www.seiu775.org/jobs. Women and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply. Fluency in a second language is plus. Experience working with a labor union, progressive non-profit or elected official, community organization, advocacy group, or political campaign is a plus. Demonstrated commitment to creating positive worker/employer relationships while fighting to raise standards for all workers in the industry and for economic justice is also a plus.

Organization Description

SEIU Healthcare 775NW, long-term care workers union in WA/MT/ID representing over 40 thousand home care, adult day health and nursing home workers seeks a Deputy Director of Member Programs and Participation. Our members are low-wage, mostly women, speak more than 50 languages and love to hold politicians accountable for quality care and quality jobs. This position, equivalent to an assistant field director/internal organizing director in most SEIU locals, is a senior management position reporting to the department director who's responsible for all of the union’s member strength programs. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to join the staff leadership team of a young, fast-growing, innovative, bold, democratic and progressive union which has grown from 1700 to 41,000 members in the long-term care industry in the space of 8 years.
