Job Description
This is a full-time position for an organizer with a strong knowledge of current educational issues around reform and redesign who can bring together various educational and community interests to collaboratively develop a working plan for an in-district charter school. The school is to be run by the union, teachers, and parents with the involvement of other community and educational leaders.
Applicant will be expected to work under the direction of local elected leaders and the organizing director to perform field organizing, leadership development and training, development and maintenance of organizing committees, and collaborative work with the district, the union’s community partners, and the union’s national affiliates.
The position is guaranteed for one year, with continuation of the position subject to grant funding.
Qualifications
Skills:  knowledgeable about public education and current educational and professional issues
 must be self directed
 experienced with union activities
 demonstrate leadership abilities
 ability to work collaboratively
 ability to work under a timeline
 demonstrate good verbal communication and writing skills (Spanish-language verbal and writing skills preferred)
 demonstrate good interpersonal skills
 demonstrate knowledge of office computer applications
 must own a working automobile

Education Austin is a 4,000-member local affiliate of the Texas State Teachers Association/NEA and the Texas Federation of Teachers/AFT which organizes and represents Austin Independent School District employees.
